Senegal built a new highway

Senegalese President Bassiro Diomaye Faye inaugurated the 100-kilometer Mbour-Fatik-Kaolak toll highway, which includes 14 overpasses, 7 underpasses, a 168-meter viaduct and 58 agricultural crossings.

The construction of the new highway cost US$ 738.7 million, with 81.45% of the financing provided by China's Eximbank and the remaining 18.55% provided by the Senegalese Government.

It is expected that the new highway will improve transport links within Senegal between Dakar, the central and eastern regions of the country, and, most importantly, facilitate the delivery of goods to Bamako, Mali.

Mali is Senegal's largest export market in Africa. Senegal's exports to Mali in 2024 reached 802.8 billion CFA francs (over $1.4 billion), up 8.6% from a year earlier. Bamako accounts for more than half of Senegal's exports to African markets.

A significant part of the trade between Senegal and Mali is carried out through the Dakar-Bamako corridor. According to the World Bank, approximately 60% of Mali's foreign trade is carried out along this route, which usually carries about 1,000 trucks per day.
