Ruby production in Mozambique increased by 61%

Ruby production in Mozambique increased by 61.4% year‑on‑year in the first half of 2026. According to official data, 3,183,333 carats were mined between January and June 2026. For comparison: during the same period in 2025, 1,972,110 carats were mined.
The result obtained over six months accounts for approximately 78% of Mozambique’s annual target of 4,062,547 carats. At this pace, the country will be able to achieve its 2026 target well ahead of schedule.
Most of the growth was concentrated in the Cabo Delgado province. In this province, in the Montepuez region, where the Montepuez Ruby Mining enterprise is located, the bulk of Mozambique’s ruby industry is concentrated.
The government intends to increase the share of ruby exports from the current approximately 70% to 79% by 2029. An increase in export volumes at competitive prices will boost Mozambique’s foreign currency earnings from this sector.
