Nigeria, Egypt and Kenya are the leaders of AI in Africa
Nigeria, Egypt and Kenya have achieved the best results among African countries in the field of responsible artificial intelligence (AI) management, according to the Global Responsible AI Index (GIRAI) 2026, which was published by the Global Center for AI Management.
The index evaluates countries using 38 indicators grouped into five dimensions: inclusion and diversity, ethics and sustainability, workforce and skills, trust and safety and the use of AI in public services.
Nigeria ranked first in Africa and 38th in the world in terms of responsible AI management. Egypt ranked second in Africa and 48th in the world. Kenya became the third on the continent and the 50th in the world.
The top ten African countries also include Ghana (56th in the world), Benin (59th), Morocco (63rd), Côte d'Ivoire (64th), Rwanda (66th), Ethiopia (73rd) and Senegal (74th).
