Ethiopia to build 300 MW wind power plant
The African Development Bank has approved the allocation of the first tranche of $110 million for the construction of Ethiopia's largest Aysha Wind power plant with a capacity of 300 MW. The estimated cost of the project is $508 million.
The Aysha Wind project provides for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of a new wind power plant in the Ethiopian region of Somalia. The project will also include the construction of a 5-kilometer power transmission line and the modernization of the existing Aysha II substation.
The new power plant is expected to generate about 1,189 GWh of clean electricity per year, which will prevent CO₂ emissions of about 1.39 million tons over 25 years.
