Egypt welcomes nearly 13 million tourists

In the first eight months of 2026, the number of tourists visiting Egypt rose to 12.7 million, up from 12.2 million during the same period the previous year. Tourism revenue increased from $11.8 billion to nearly $12 billion over the same timeframe.
There are 185 hotels currently under construction in Egypt—an increase of 42 compared to the previous year. These new properties will add 46,000 rooms to the country's accommodation capacity. The number of hotels under construction has risen steadily since 2020: 109 were being built in 2024, 103 in 2023, 85 in 2022, 67 in 2021, and 54 in 2020.
The International Monetary Fund projects that Egypt's tourism revenue will grow from $20 billion in the 2025–2026 fiscal year to nearly $21 billion in 2026–2027, eventually peaking at $30 billion in 2030–2031.
