Chad opens borders to Africans

President of Chad Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, speaking at the opening of the African Water Forum, announced that entry visas for all African citizens will be abolished from January 1, 2027.

As a landlocked country, Chad expects the visa-free regime to facilitate business travel, diplomatic missions, tourism, and cross-border trade with neighboring countries.

The Government has yet to clarify the practical details of the reform, including the maximum length of stay, arrival requirements, and border control procedures that will accompany visa cancellation.

With this statement, Chad joins the group of African countries that have already introduced or announced visa-free entry for all African citizens. These are Rwanda, Benin, Gambia, Seychelles, Ghana, Kenya, Togo and the Republic of the Congo.
