Angola resumes cashew nut production
In the Angolan province of Zaire, about 8,000 cashew seedlings were distributed to agricultural associations and cooperatives as part of a program to revive this crop in the region.
According to Gouveia da Silva Pedro, director of the Provincial Office of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, the local government, through its sector, intends to revive the production of cashew nuts, which in the 70s and 80s were the main crop grown by the inhabitants of Zaire.
The province of Zaire has enormous agricultural potential. Cassava, peanuts, corn, beans, sesame seeds, bananas, citrus fruits, sweet potatoes, yams, sugar cane and vegetables are grown here.
